SIMCAM  Study Groups

Since 2010, SIMCAM has promoted Study Groups (SG) for purposes of discussing participants research more specifically, as we can see below in brief presentations of active groups in the previous Simcams. The GSs are held in three days, during the symposium, lasting 1h30 each day.

Cognition, Music and Music Therapy

Coordinator: Clara Márcia Piazzeta (UNESPAR-FAP)

Integrating music studies, cognition, health and music therapy this group proposes to understand the function of music for health, focusing on the following aspects: autism, cerebral palsy, neurodegenerative diseases, rehabilitation of neurological damage, music and wellness.

Cognition and Musical Education

Coordinator: Rosane Cardoso de Araújo (UFPR)

Discussions of this group focus on themes that articulate the studies of cognition and musical education under some perspectives such as: reception / perception, musical development, acquisition of expertise, processes of musical learning and creativity, as well as some themes of music psychology that influence performance,  particularly motivation and self-regulation of learning.

Music and Cognition Theories

Coordinators: Beatriz Raposo de Medeiros (USP) e Luis Felipe Oliveira (UFMS)

This SG purpose is to search for a better understanding of theoretical foundations and theoretical approaches used to explain our musical knowledge. Some issues of interest are: What are (some of) the current theories of cognition? How do they (or some of them) account for what we understand as music?

Cognitive Semantics and Music

Coordinator: Marcos Nogueira (UFRJ)

This SG point of interest is to discuss the cognitive theories of musical meaning and in this matter it is dedicated to understand the semantic method disclosed in propositional descriptions of music experience.
